Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009There are some good customer service lessons other Harley Davidson parts suppliers could learn from this post. I ordered a rear axle mounted Rota-Plate Junior for my Rocker FXCW from Top Down Pro in the States on the 25th August, initial customer service was all very friendly and prompt, the item shipped same day which is always a promising sign.
I checked the tracking information yesterday th 1st September to see if the part was due to arrive before the end of the week so I could take it into the garage and have it fitted whilst all the other work is being done.
Oh no, the part has been shipped to Austria, easy mistake to make I guess, annoying none the less, so I sent an email to Top Down Pro to point out the mistake and see how they would handle it, here is the conversation flow:

“Hi Dennis, I hate to spot this late but it seems the package has been shipped to austria and not australia. I attach the image from the package tracking.”

“Ok, I will so what I can find out about it’s location. Thanks!”

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009Following some further research into digital speedos one of the forum members on HDForums.com suggested checking out Thunder Max / Zippers. They make a great looking instrument panel for other Harley Davidsons so I’ve emailed them to see if there are plans for one for the Rocker. Looks a bit less like “my first digital watch” from 1980 !

Monday, August 24th, 2009So while my bike is in the shop for paint it gives me lots of spare time to think about whats next.
So I got to thinking that given we’re living in a digital age I thought it may be appropriate to move from an analogue speedo on the Rocker to a digital one, so far i’ve only been able to find one after market part from a company called Dakota Digital.
It’s a good looking speedo and could go great with the black and red look i’m aiming for. Looks like it should be available from October 2009.
Also the next thing to do has to be to get the license plate off the rear fender and down on to the rear axle, the best looking alternative i’ve found to date is from a company called Top Down Products and their plate mount Roto Plate and in my case Roto Plate jr. They come in chrome, powder coat gloss black and powder coat matt black, I’ll go for gloss black.
